Year: 2023
During the Xbox Game Studio Camp Sweden 2023 (XGS), diverse teams were put up to build a game prototype over three months. Participants received lectures from industry experts, guiding them through various aspects of game production. Our team (Lucky 13) aimed to create a game concept (Operation Checkout) that would stand out by balancing fun, with a pinch of challenge and competition.
Operation Checkout is a high-energy, local multiplayer game that immerses players in the bustling world of a supermarket. Players compete against each other and the clock, manoeuvring through a vivid, dynamic supermarket to collect items and rack up points. Operation Checkout uniquely combines the exhilaration of racing, the precision of platforming, and the tactical elements of item collection in a striking low-poly 3D environment, accommodating 2-4 players aged 10 and above
We decided on a stylized look to give the game a playful and engaging feel. Achieving consistency in style across the project was initially challenging. To address this, we developed a style guide and maintained open communication within the team. This approach ensured that all visual elements aligned with our intended aesthetic and could be replicated by each of us.

Participating in the Xbox Game Camp 2023 allowed me to hone my skills, further strengthened my experience in working in teams, and re-emphasised the importance of consistent communication in collaborative projects.
We were able to build the game prototype successfully and presented it at the finale of the XGS Camp 2023. During internal testing and feedback sessions with our assigned mentor at the camp, the design received positive responses; culminating in a rewarding experience for me and my team members.

As one of the artists on the team, my primary responsibilities focused on Visual and UI art. I used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to design the game's visuals. Additionally, I contributed to the testing of our prototype to ensure a seamless player experience.
